Long + Purvis = Less Than One MLA

East Belfast DUP Assembly Member Robin Newton has responded to the publication of the voting figures for members of the Northern Ireland Assembly, showing that Dawn Purvis, despite receiving 100% of the salary of an Assembly Member only turned up for 23% of the votes at Parliament Buildings. The statistics also revealed that the Alliance Assembly Member Naomi Long only managed to make it to half of the votes between September and June.

Irish Republic's Child Trafficking Corridor Must Be Closed

DUP Assembly Member for East Belfast, Robin Newton, has demanded that the Irish Republic does more to combat child trafficking. Mr. Newton made the comments following an End Child Prostitution, Child Pornography and the Trafficking of Children report.  The EPCAT report recommended that in the Irish Republic: “Special attention should be paid with regard to the ratification of international legal standards addressing child trafficking”. It highlighted that Ireland “has also been identified as a transit point for children trafficked to the UK”.

Robin Newton East Belfast DUP MLA said it is a sad day when in the mother of parliaments political dogma has a higher precedence than the education of children. The Government in announcing cutbacks in school building provision when simultaneously   allocating £ millions to a referendum on the electoral process will be seen by many parents, principals and pupils as shameful. The Alliance Party and the Ulster Unionists, being in a political relationship with the Government coalition parties, need to clarify their position on this matter.
