ROBIN NEWTON East Belfast DUP MLA has welcomed the report on Britain’s reserve forces that will recommend an increase in the numbers of recruits to the Territorial Army.

ROBIN NEWTON East Belfast DUP MLA and leader of the DUP Group in Belfast City Council has expressed disappointment that Tom Elliott made no mention of unionist unity or even cooperation following his party’s Annual General Meeting.

ROBIN NEWTON East Belfast DUP Leader on Belfast City Council reacting to Alliance’s recent statement said the illogical ranting of the Alliance Party and the accusations against the DUP on the outworking of the D’Hondt system for Lord Mayor and Deputy Lord Mayor allocation is just political sour grapes. The Alliance, Sinn Fein and SDLP voting bloc has been destroyed and Alliance members are smarting politically as their entitlement will be based on party electoral strength rather than their holding of the balance of power and doing grubby little deals.

The Alliance, SDLP and Sinn Fein have united to change the rules in Belfast City Council to exclude the members of Belfast City Unionist Group from key Council positions. As a result of Alliance's decision there will only be one unionist Lord Mayor during this Council term.

Councillor Robin Newton DUP Group Leader on Belfast City Council has extended an invitation to other unionists to discuss the formation of a City Hall unionist grouping.

“For years the Alliance Party has got away with pretending to be all things to all people, relying on people being taken in by their supposed “moderate” or “nice” stance. The reality is that Alliance is a high-tax, anti-Unionist, anti-grammar school party, with a dangerous agenda.

Robin Newton East Belfast DUP Assembly candidate said, The Alliance Party’s support for the proposed AV voting system should not come as a surprise to local people. On the doorstep the major concerns are about jobs, health and education. However, as the election date has come closer the Alternative Vote (AV) system is being raised with direction being sought by voters.

ROBIN NEWTON East Belfast DUP candidate, Junior Minister in the Office of the First Minister and Deputy First Minister, has expressed concern about the potential loss of 400 jobs in the Red Sky Group.

East Belfast DUP Assembly candidate Robin Newton has responded to an SDLP attack on the DUP’s economic policies by highlighting that it was the influence of the DUP in the last Executive which ensured policies were developed which were good for business and good for the Northern Ireland economy.

East Belfast Councillor Robin Newton has expressed his deep concern that Alliance Councillors in Belfast have once again stood against an MoD request to fly the Armed Forces Flag on the City Hall for six days.
