Robin Newton, East Belfast DUP MLA has welcomed the glimmer of hope emanating from the office of Gordon Brown on the rights of the men of the Gurkha regiment to settle in the UK. Robin Newton said:

“The hard fought campaign for these brave and fiercely loyal men from the Gurkha regiment to be awarded the right to settle in the UK after military service, if the early indications of victory are realised, represents justice being done.

The intervention of the Prime Minister following the shock defeat in the House of Commons is a realisation of the strength of feeling across the nation in favour and support of these brave soldiers.”
