ROBIN Newton East Belfast DUP MLA has welcomed the decision of Gordon Brown to grant ex – soldiers of the Ghurkha brigade settlement rights in the UK.

Robin Newton said,

“The hard fought campaign for these brave and fiercely loyal Ghurkha veterans to be awarded the right to settle in the UK following their military service is justice being done and being seen to be done.

The intervention of the PM following Labour’s shock defeat in the House of Commons is a recognition of the strength of feeling across the nation in favour and support of these bravest of the brave soldiers. These soldiers from Nepal have shown great courage in battle and intense loyalty to Britain and a continuation of the refusal to grant them settlement rights would have been a grave injustice”
