Robin Newton East Belfast DUP MLA has said the TUV turnout for the rally in East Belfast tonight must surely deeply disappoint Mr Jim Allister.
Robin Newton said,
"Tonight’s anti-DUP "rally" in Albertbridge Orange Hall cannot have been encouraging for the TUV with so few local people attending.
The several dozen crowd was obviously bussed into the hall from across the Province with many recognisable from other parts of Northern Ireland.
At a time of such heightened political interest, for the TUV to muster only this poor attendance confirms Mr Allister is well off message with the unionist population.
When unionists are seeking ways to work together with the intention of protecting and enhancing the Union Mr Allister has specifically targeted Peter Robinson’s constituency.
However, the unionist people will remember those who shred the unionist vote and thereby put at risk the existence of the Union.
We shouldn't be surprised at the TUV desire to split the unionist vote, as ultimately TUV wants unaccountable Direct Rule where unionists are side-lined and have no control.”
Little Support In East Belfast For Mr Allister
