East Belfast DUP MLA Robin Newton has the process of consultation with DUP members commenced on Friday evening at a meeting of the East Belfast Westminster Constituency Association.

Speaking today Mr Newton said,

“This well attended meeting, an aspect of confirming community confidence, was addressed by Association Chairman Lord Browne MLA and Robin Newton MLA who detailed the background and process leading up to the deal.

Each member was provided with a copy of the Agreement at Hillsborough Castle document.

Members were reminded that it was the removal of policing and justice powers that caused the collapse of Northern Ireland Government in 1972 and the now P&J is coming home. The DUP manifesto – Getting it Right - 2007 Assembly elections was confirmed as the foundation built on by the DUP negotiation team.

In answer to questions members were informed the Agreement destroyed the myth of Gerry Kelly, or any Sinn Fein member, holding the post of Policing and Justice Minister. Sinn Fein propaganda was debunked refuting their mischievous party-line this agreement creates an all Ireland police force or any new North South bodies.

The misinformation, half-truths and humbug of DUP opponents was dealt with informing those present there will no Irish Language Act, the Parades Commission will go, the Police and Courts will get additional resources and that a failure of other parties to keep to their commitments will have consequences.

The vote to approve this “Made in Ulster” deal was unanimous along with a vote of confidence in Peter Robinson’s leadership.”
