ROBIN Newton East Belfast DUP MLA has said the London weekend conference of Sinn Fein, with a predictable speaker line up, once again demonstrates the daydream type thinking of these republican dogmatists.
Robin Newton said,
“The political cloud-cuckoo-land type judgment demonstrated by Pat Doherty, the Sinn Fein MLA with a strong British accent, in his assertion that unionists need to find their place in a New Ireland, is more of the same political drivel regurgitated by those devoid of any clear thinking.
Unionists are comfortable with their identity within the UK; as demonstrated in election results for generations. Many Sinn Fein MLAs also appear cosy as they rest their behinds on the Stormont Chamber’s leather seats within a devolved British Assembly.
As the political fortunes of Sinn Fein decline on the other side of the border a united Ireland is only a pipe-dream argument coming out of republican fantasy land. It is increasingly clear none of the Republic’s political pundits now takes them seriously as a political party.
Unionists, like their forefathers, know their best interests are within a UK devolved Assembly that voices their position and not in some self-delusion driven craving from Connolly House.
Sinn Fein needs to get real; they need face facts, waken up and smell the coffee. The tainted case for Irish unity has never been attractive to unionists down the generations and certainly isn’t now.”
