EAST Belfast DUP MLA Robin Newton in response to East Belfast TUV Westminster candidate David Vance’s latest attack on the DUP said, “His most recent angry ranting confirms what little knowledge he has of East Belfast. However, what else would we expect from a carpet bagger who couldn’t get elected to Craigavon Council? If the good people of Craigavon have no confidence in David Vance at Council level why would the sensible people of East Belfast send him to Westminster?
Robin Newton said,
“East Belfast is a highly desirable place to live with a great demand from other parts of the country for jobs, housing and school places. The quality of life is made good by DUP supported investment in Titanic Quarter including the new BMC building, the Titanic Signature Project, Ikea’s decision to locate in the area, a highly successful George Best City Airport, strong financial support for Bombardier, improved investment and upgrades to our roads network, with the Sydenham bypass being improved, the multi-million pound Connswater Community Greenway project, and the now maturing Comber Greenway Support for small businesses through rate relief, manufacturing rates freeze, freezing of the regional rate under devolution and major investment in our local schools, with Ashfield Boys and Girls School now regarded as leading schools along with excellent other education campuses for primary and second level education; this is not the end. And there is more on the way.
It is not for a politician to blow his own trumpet; Mr Vance should know better. Anything that is achieved at constituency level is accomplished in partnership with local people and the statutory agencies. East Belfast’s level-headed and reasonable people will decide who goes to the House of Commons and no amount of ranting and raving from far away will change their minds.”
