ROBIN Newton EAST Belfast DUP MLA has welcomed Minister for the Environment Edwin Poots statement in the Assembly today on the draft Clean Neighbourhoods and Environment Bill.
Robin Newton said,
“One of the most frequent complaints to elected representatives is regarding how clean and tidy an area is with frequent complaints about dog fouling, litter and graffiti etc.. Issues such as these negatively impact on an area and directly impact on the quality of life including just how pleasant it is to live in certain districts.
This draft bill will be welcomed by all who have a pride in their community. Under this bill local councils will be given additional powers to help them address problem areas such as young people gathering and creating nuisance, on street drinking and other types of anti-social behaviour.
The introduction of this bill mirrors popular and successful legislation already in existence in Great Britain. I would encourage all residents and community groups to fully engage in this important consultation phase which closes 23 April 2010.”
Welcome For Clean Neighbourhoods Bill
