Glentoran Flag Incident Must Be Investigated
East Belfast DUP MLA Robin Newton has said,
“If as reported the trouble at the Glentoran match in Dublin’s Dalymount Park was due to police over reaction to a fan having a Northern Ireland flag then serious questions need to be asked.
It is offensive and intolerable to a large proportion of the unionist community, regardless of them being football fans that the Garda reacts in such a ham-fisted and clumsy manner to the flying of the Northern Ireland flag.
To clarify the situation the IFA and the FAI need to publish the match incident report as soon as possible. And for fan safety more work needs to be done before future matches.”
