ROBIN Newton EAST Belfast DUP MLA has welcomed and supported the efforts of local traders as they establish trader forum type organisations across the east of the city.
Robin Newton said,
“One of the most frequent business complaints to elected representatives is from the small indigenous family or sole trader business about access to help from government business support agencies.
I welcome the recent efforts by traders in Belmont and Ballyhackamore to establish neighbourhood business organisations to help address the issues facing the traders. These are good initiatives that should be supported by all East Belfast elected representatives. Keeping business local is a good initiative that stretches beyond just the success of the one business. These small village type clusters of shops and offices are important aspect of local business and community life. I would support other areas collectively acting in a similar manner.
It is important that a devolved assembly delivers local support, for all sectors of our society, beyond what was delivered by unaccountable direct rule ministers.
The traders in Belmont and Ballyhackamore have taken the initiative. Belfast City Council and the government agencies need to seek ways to work together with the traders in support these important community based businesses ventures.”
