ROBIN Newton East Belfast DUP MLA has rported on a meeting with the management of Britvic following the recent announcement of 52 redundancies. Britvic is an important business within East Belfast with many employees having long and loyal service. Having been contacted by members of staff they encouraged me to get in touch with the company.MLA Meets Britvic Management.

Robin Newton said,

“I wanted to meet with the company’s management to ensure that all that could be done to minimise the job losses was done. I raised the matter of alternative job opportunities within the company. I was pleased that a number of employees whose job was redundant had internal offers of employment; and that additional skills training was to be provided. On behalf of those who contacted me I wanted an assurance that the redundancy deal was agreeable to the employees who had to move on. I am pleased the company has been able to sort out a redundancy package.

Being paid off is a very distressing experience and can create difficulties within a family, between husbands, wives, partners and especially so when children are involved. Government departments, particularly the Department for Social Development (DSD) and the Department for Employment and Learning (DEL), have responsibilities to play a positive roll in helping those employees who are facing the challenges of being out of a job.”
