ROBIN Newton East Belfast DUP MLA has welcomed the decision by Willowfield Parish Church rector, Canon David McClay, to organise a Keep it Local Campaign saying this is a welcome initiative at a time when many small retailers are under extreme business pressure.

Robin Newton said,

"I applaud and congratulate the actions of Willowfield Parish Church in trying to assist local business people at a very difficult time.  The Keep it Local Campaign will encourage those small retailers who are struggling to pay high rents and rates at a time of reduced spending power in the economy.  It is my own practice to shop local whenever possible.

Iniatives of this 'shop locally' type help in other ways.  They help develop a community spirit; help with investment in an area and help stop an area get rundown and dilapidated.

I wish the organisers well and will do all that I can to help the scheme be successful."
