ROBIN Newton East Belfast DUP MLA in welcoming the actions of customs and PSNI staff in seizing the 8.4 million illegal Chinese manufactured cigarettes in south Armagh said the violent thugs who smuggle cigarettes into Northern Ireland have no concerns for the increased health risks to those who buy their prohibited products.
Robin Newton said,
“The sophisticated criminal gangs who engage in this type of illegal activity are only concerned about the money they make.
As the customs and PSNI personnel risk their lives in doing their duty these violent criminals care nothing for those they injure. These black marketeers have no idea, nor do they care, about the process used in producing the counterfeit cigarettes or the content of the cigarettes. They don’t worry, won’t be concerned or even think about the health dangers to those who buy these supposed bargains. For many users the good-deal in the short term will turn out to be a health rip-off in the longer term. They don’t care a jot about the increased cancer risks to the men, women and children who smoke these churned out Chinese cigarettes. The smokers need to be aware of the increased health risks they are running.
Not only should these cruel criminals be charged with serious criminal activity but also with wickedly and corruptly damaging the health of men, women and children.”
