ROBIN Newton East Belfast DUP MLA has welcomed an additional 36 new family homes within East Belfast. These new homes now underway by Trinity Housing are welcome but many more are need to address the needs of local people.

Robin Newton said,

I welcome the investment of £2.3 million in these two small schemes in Grove Street East and in Ladas Way and I am certain the homes, already generating a high level of interest, will be fully appreciated by the new tenants. I have no doubt many languishing on the Northern Ireland Housing Executive waiting list will long to be successful in the allocation process.

With house prices in the private sector continuing to crash, the threat of increased unemployment and frequent bank and building society repossessions public sector housing demand will continue to grow. These family type homes, that includes two and three bedroom houses, in these two developments will be much sought after.  The houses in the Ladas Way development are described as Lifetime Homes and will be suitable for tenants throughout their lives. Both schemes are situated close to good schools, shops and public transport so they are ideally situated for local families.

These homes will make a small dent in the housing waiting list. The new Department of Social Development Minister Alex Attwood needs to up his game in the provision of housing in the east of the city to address the mounting demand."
