ROBIN Newton East Belfast DUP MLA has welcomed the announcement that East Belfast is to benefit from the creation of a £20 million regeneration project to be based on the Newtownards Road. Robin Newton said,

“The Skainos project, which has been created in partnership with the East Belfast Mission, is welcome news to everyone in East Belfast.  It will provide facilities which can be used by students, senior citizens and community groups as well as providing commercial property.

For many years the Newtownards Road area has been neglected and fallen into need of regeneration.  A project such as this will go a long way towards improving the facilities available to the local community.  With the many groups involved in the implementing and development of this scheme it will also help to build a sense of community amongst those who benefit from the facility.

This project is excellent news for the people of East Belfast and I want to congratulate all those involved in delivering the Skainos project.  Hopefully this project will only be the first of many for the east of the city to be delivered in the coming years.”
