ROBIN Newton East Belfast DUP MLA and a member of the Assembly’s Enterprise, Trade and Investment Committee has welcomed the Department’s report confirming Northern Ireland business men and women are stepping up to the mark and doing sterling work when it comes to increasing exports.
Robin Newton said,
“This DETI report will help encourage other local firms to redouble their efforts within the export markets. In these economically difficult times it is encouraging to note an almost 10% increase in goods leaving Northern Ireland to customers across the world. This successful marketing activity will help secure jobs, strengthen firms and may lead to increased job opportunities.
These are challenging times for all local businesses. Our export levels have still some way to go to get us back to the figures of just a few years ago. However, I have no doubts in the skills, commitment and abilities of our local people to achieve further growth in the exporting of local products.
Minister Arlene Foster’s support, especially for Small to Medium Enterprises (SMEs), to achieve their full exporting potential is obviously paying off. Targeted support to the high added value manufacturing sector in particular will pay further dividends in the future and ensure more good business news.”
