ROBIN Newton East Belfast DUP MLA has welcomed a proposal from Habinteg Housing Association to build a total of 41 new homes in the Parkgate area.
Robin Newton said,
“I am pleased Habinteg Housing Association is considering developing a vacant and neglected site at 146 Parkgate Avenue for new build social housing. This proposal is worthy of careful thought and I welcome Habinteg’s willingness to consult on the matter with the local community.
Given the long waiting list in East Belfast this investment in a mix of family homes and apartments would be very beneficial. It represents another small but important step in addressing the housing waiting list.
Every week my office is contacted by local people who just cannot find a suitable home. Many are living in private landlord accommodation much of which is poor quality with overpriced rents. Others are in homes that are too small or they are sharing with parents in an overcrowding situation and with no choice due to a public sector housing shortage.
Habinteg’s new build quality homes will be eagerly awaited, by those on the waiting list and will be much sought after. The scheme is very welcome and I hope that all elected representatives will give the planning application full consideration. In these difficult economic days it is good to see Habinteg Housing Assoc. making this significant investment in the area.”
