Robin Newton East Belfast DUP MLA, said in attending the Annual General Meeting of the Wandsworth Community Association he was hugely impressed by the ongoing level of positive and popular community activity.

Robin Newton said,

“I have been pleased to support Wandsworth Community Association from their beginning in 1994. Their faithful team of 60 voluntary workers cover a wide range of activities including, Mum & Chums, aerobic classes, Ju Jitsu, drumming, senior citizens group and a wider range of short courses; there is so much going on it is impossible to cover it all. Those volunteers who invest their time and talents in this very valuable community work deserve the thanks of the entire community.

I was blown away by the number of young people who had eagerly enrolled in the Duke of Edinburg Award scheme. With 110 local young people signing up, aged 14-19, and taking up the challenges and working towards bronze, silver and gold standards speaks volumes about their motivation. The Duke of Edinburgh Award, at all levels, is particularly challenging and these young people have risen to the challenges with enthusiasm and a passion that is catching.

I want to pay particular tribute to Alison Smith, Voluntary Community Development Worker, for all her hard work. Alison’s team of gifted volunteers compliment her dedication and with the team pulling together their continued success is guaranteed."
