Clarawood House Fire: Tenants Must Recieve Assurances

EAST Belfast DUP Councillor and MLA Robin Newton has said “It is only by the Grace of Almighty God that the fire on the 10th floor of this his rise NIHE apartment block did not result in a loss of life.

Robin Newton said,

"Clarawood House is a 14 story high rise block of flats that has received significant investment by the NIHE over recent years including the employment of security personnel. It also has a high turnover of young tenants with the behaviour of some tenants being discussed at the monthly meetings of the tenants association and reports made to the NIHE. Unfortunately long-term and responsible residents are afflicted with a tiny irresponsible minority who make life difficult for them. Police are often called to the building as a result of parties and other disturbances. A fire on the 10th floor of this sky scraper type building will raise suspicions with other residents. This incident must be fully investigated and tenants given all the necessary information to provide them with reassurances."
